Lyn Slater - Professor and Blogger

fashionista.jpeg

Lyn Slater started blogging in her spare time as a hobby and initially worked with small, unknown brands. She eventually grew to be one of the most sought after fashion influencers today. But she still enjoys working with small, emerging designers and makes it a point to highlight the work they do. Lyn also provides an honest perspective about fashion culture, which we appreciate. She is confident, creative, and fierce AF - it’s safe to say who our #girlcrush is.

Where are you from and what do you do?

I’m from NYC. Until last semester I was a professor of social welfare. Currently, I am a blogger and content creator for my social media platforms: Accidental Icon.

Why did you start Accidental Icon and what were you doing prior to that?

I wanted to do something different and creative so I decided to start a blog where I could explore the role fashion plays in culture and society.

Retail and fashion has changed a lot in the last few years. What do you think has changed the most in the industry and how do you feel about it?

Everything and everyone is moving too fast. Technology has given us tools to expand our creativity; at the same time it has diluted it.

Where do you currently draw inspiration from?

The city, art, culture, literature and young people.

Who is your icon?

David Bowie

Do you have any projects you're working on that you can share with us?

Possibly a book, an Instagram tv show and who knows?
